Answers to the most common questions from C Series users—covering machine setup, parameters, maintenance, and choosing between CT and CG models.
Senfeng Tools C Series is a portable MOPA pulsed laser cleaning machine designed to remove rust, paint, oxide layers, oil, grease, and other contaminants—without chemicals or abrasives and without secondary pollution. Whether cleaning ship hulls, injection molds, structural steel, or old wood, this FAQ covers the questions customers ask most often.
Getting Started — Safety & Machine Setup
Is the C Series safe to operate?
The C Series uses a Class 4 laser, which produces high-intensity laser radiation that can cause serious injury if operated improperly. Follow these safety requirements:
· Never look directly into the laser output when the machine is powered.
· Always wear certified laser safety glasses matched to the laser output power and wavelength (1060–1070 nm).
· Keep the laser output below the operator's eye level.
· Do not operate near flammable materials such as alcohol, gasoline, or ether—the laser beam may ignite them.
· Ensure the machine is properly grounded; the machine uses single-phase AC power.
· Do not open the housing while the machine is operating; never leave the powered machine unattended.
Non-professionals must not start or operate this equipment. Contact the Senfeng technical support team with any safety questions.
What working environment does the C Series require?
· Operating temperature: 0°C to +45°C
· Humidity: 10–95% (non-condensing)
· Cooling: Intelligent air cooling—no external water supply or water piping required.
· Ventilation: Good airflow is recommended; interaction between the laser and material may generate fumes depending on the contaminant.
The air-cooled system means the C Series can be used even at outdoor job sites without a water source—connect the power and start cleaning.
How portable is the C Series?
Very portable. The main unit weighs only 20–22 kg (CT Series) or 20–22 kg (CG Series), while the handheld cleaning head weighs only 0.9–1.3 kg. One person can carry the machine between work locations such as factory workshops, construction sites, shipyards, or mobile repair vehicles.
The 5 m fiber-optic cable (customizable in length) makes it easy to cover the working area around large workpieces.

Applications |
Mold surface contamination; paint & grease on metal surfaces |
Heavy rust; paint & oxide removal; old paint on wood; surface texturing before coating |
Choose CG if you need to remove heavy rust, old paint, oxide layers, or carbon deposits and want stronger removal with fewer scanning passes. CG uses a Gaussian beam with 1.8 mJ pulse energy.
Choose CT if surface quality is critical and substrate damage must be minimized, especially for mold maintenance, electronic-component cleaning, or applications requiring controlled heat input and high cleaning precision. CT uses a flat-top beam with 15 mJ pulse energy.
How does Flat-Top Beam technology differ from a standard Gaussian beam?
Flat-Top Beam technology distributes laser energy evenly across the entire spot, like a “light brush,” allowing gentler and more uniform surface cleaning while reducing substrate damage.
By comparison, a Gaussian beam concentrates most of its energy at the center of the spot, which may increase the risk of localized overheating or substrate damage, especially when processing thin or fragile materials.
Therefore, CG (Gaussian beam, 1.8 mJ) is better suited to heavy cleaning on robust substrates, while CT (flat-top beam, 15 mJ) is better suited to delicate, high-precision cleaning on sensitive surfaces.

Operation & Parameter Settings
Is the machine complicated to operate? Is professional training required?
It is not complicated. The C Series includes a process-parameter library with 10 preset cleaning parameter groups covering common materials. Operators only need to select the appropriate mode to start cleaning, so even users without previous laser-equipment experience can get started quickly.
For new or special materials, however, we recommend testing and adjusting power and frequency based on actual cleaning results.

What cleaning patterns are available, and when should I use them?
The C Series includes six cleaning patterns, including square, circular, spiral, and cycloidal patterns. Different surfaces require different scanning paths to achieve more uniform laser-energy distribution and avoid localized heat concentration.
· Square / Rectangle: suitable for large flat surfaces and metal sheets.
· Circle: suitable for curved or round parts, pipes, and similar surfaces.
· Spiral: suitable for concentrated cleaning of stubborn deposits.
· Cycloid: suitable for continuous cleaning of irregular surfaces.
Select the cleaning pattern from the Scan Type menu and adjust Outer Radius and Int Radius to set the pattern size.

How do I set laser power, frequency, and pulse width?
· Laser Power: sets laser output power. Start at a lower power and gradually increase it until contaminants can be removed effectively.
· Laser Frequency: sets pulse frequency. Higher frequency = more pulses per second = can match higher galvo speeds, but the corresponding single-pulse energy is lower (power = frequency × single-pulse energy), so cleaning force is weaker. Set frequency according to the cutoff frequency for the selected pulse width.
· Pulse Width: sets pulse duration (20–500 ns). Shorter pulses can reduce heat input; longer pulses can provide higher single-pulse energy.
Best practice: Start with low power and test a small area, then gradually increase power until effective cleaning is achieved while avoiding substrate damage.
The Advanced Parameters menu (password: 258369) allows upper and lower parameter limits to be set, helping prevent incorrect settings caused by operator error.
How do I choose the correct field lens?
The Lens Selec menu in the software provides different field lenses such as F160, F210, F254, and F330. Different lenses correspond to different scan ranges and XY scaling factors.
|
Field Lens |
Scan Range |
Application |
|
F160 |
≤100 × 100 mm |
Small, high-precision work |
|
F254 (standard) |
≤150 × 150 mm |
General-purpose cleaning |
|
F330 |
Larger range |
Large surface areas where precision requirements are relatively lower |
Choose a field lens that matches the size of your common workpieces. Smaller lenses provide more concentrated energy, while larger lenses cover more area per scan.
What are Hatch Distance and Galvo Speed?
· Hatch Dist (Hatch Distance): controls the fill density of the scan pattern (range 0–50). A smaller value = denser fill = more thorough cleaning, but slower speed. Larger values can be used for light contamination; for heavy rust, reduce the value appropriately.
· Galvo Speed: sets the galvo scanning speed. Higher speed = faster coverage, but shorter laser dwell time at each position. Balance it with laser power and hatch distance.
Image suggestion: Use a screenshot of the control screen from the user manual and label Param Name, Hatch Dist, Galvo Speed, Scan Type, Laser Power, and other parameter locations.
Materials & Applications
How effective is laser cleaning? What are its advantages over traditional cleaning?
Laser cleaning offers high precision, down to the micron level, and uses a non-contact process, so it does not directly contact the substrate surface and can reduce damage to the underlying material.
Compared with traditional methods such as sandblasting, chemical stripping, and grinding, laser cleaning offers:
· More environmentally friendly—no chemical solvents or abrasive waste.
· High efficiency—faster removal with less manual labor.
· No abrasive media—no abrasive-media costs and less cleanup afterward.
· Non-contact cleaning—better preservation of substrate surface integrity.
